EUGENE, OR - Andrea Newton of Lane Community College has received the 2013 Lifetime Achievement award from the Oregon Association for Career and Technical Education.
Newton is well known in the educational community for building partnerships that support career and technical educational opportunities for high school and community college students.
She has served as Executive Dean of Academic Affairs for Career-Technical Education at Lane since 2007. She also directed the college's Cooperative Education Division, Apprenticeship Program, High School Connections Program, Carl D. Perkins Grant, and Career and Technical Education Advisory Coordinating Committee during her 15-year career at the college.
Before Lane, she worked for 25 years in the K-12 sector including positions as director of career and technical education, middle and high school principal for the Springfield School District. In addition, she served as high school vice principal, work experience coordinator, and business education instructor at Willamette High School.
In 2011, Newton received the Dean Herman Schneider Award from the national Cooperative Education Internship Association, the highest honor bestowed by the association. In 2008 she received the James E. Lawson Outstanding Service Award from the Northwest Career Educators and Employers Association. In 2000, she received the Oregon Outstanding Service Award in Professional Technical Education from the Oregon Council of Career and Vocational Administrators. She is a past president of the Oregon Work Experience Coordinators of Oregon.
Newton is retiring in June.
