EUGENE, OR - Lane Community College Public Safety will again partner with the Drug Enforcement Administration on the next National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, scheduled for Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Collections will be made outside Building 19 on the LCC main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue in Eugene.
This is a great opportunity for those who missed the previous events, or who have subsequently accumulated unwanted or unused prescription drugs, to safely dispose of those medications.
The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
Any prescription medication except chemotherapy drugs or sharps can be dropped off. Liquids should be tightly closed. Veterinary medications are acceptable.
"This is a great opportunity to keep drugs out of the waste stream, and out of the wrong hands," said LCC Public Safety Chief Jace Smith. "Every year people drive by and see our collection bins and say they wished they'd known about the event, because they've been wondering what to do with their old antibiotics and other prescriptions."
Now you know.
The college has collected as much as 300 pounds of prescription medications at previous events. Nationally, more than 2 million pounds of prescriptions have been removed from circulation.
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is intended to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these medications.
