EUGENE, OR - In order to better serve existing and prospective students, employees and community members, Lane Community College has spent the last year redesigning its website and is proud to announce the debut of the site the week of March 24. The effort was led by the Lane Web and Marketing Teams but included input from an extensive number of students and employees, as well as broader community groups.
"Our primary goal was to upgrade the website to better meet the needs of the people who rely upon it the most, and subsequently to introduce a number of technical and feature upgrades that are reflective of the web 2.0 ideology," said Brad Hinson, division dean of Academic Technology. "I believe we've taken an enormous step in that direction, and it will be exciting to see how the site evolves from here."
This effort to establish a second-generation web presence has involved the implementation of a content management system which will allow for dynamic content integration and updates; a reorganization of existing content for ease of use; extensive social media incorporation; and an engaging graphic design for a fresh look and feel. Among the wide-ranging list of new features and capabilities the site will have is the new "mega-menu" which will allow for ease of navigation, an enhanced search capability, deeper social media integration, and a clear and distinct starting point for different types of users of the site, i.e. current students, future students, community members and employees.
"One of the themes from our extensive outreach and research was the need to welcome visitors to our site. We wanted the new site to be engaging and informative and I believe we met that goal," said Tracy Simms, executive assistant to the president.
The Lane Web Team will host a public forum to demonstrate the new site, answer questions and collect feedback, on Monday, March 11 from 1-2 p.m. in the boardroom, building 3, main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue in Eugene.
