EUGENE, OR – The Lane Community College Art Gallery is proud to present the exhibition, "Under the Sun", by mid-western artist Zina Mussmann.
Zina Mussmann was born in Milwaukee and received a BFA in Painting and Drawing from UWM's Peck School of the Arts in 2002. She went on to complete her MFA in Painting at Northern Illinois University in 2008. Zina has exhibited nationally in cities including Milwaukee, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Sacramento, and Chicago. Her work was recently featured in the Manifest International Painting Annual 1, which was published in late 2011. Currently, Zina is the Co-Director of "greymatter", an artist-run initiative that she established in 2011 with artist Rachel Quirk.
"My process involves the collection and appropriation of images and words from various ephemera, such as photographs, documents and film. I am interested in de-contextualizing this information and re-contextualizing it into mixed media works. These new constructions are a hybrid of drawing, painting, and collage that create ambiguous meanings which complicate understanding. I allow the work to exist in a state of absurdity by choosing to exclude certain information that is vital to the interpretation of the images. The work becomes more about questions than answers and alludes to the fact that, as humans, we can never really find real truth, only temporary conclusions. That really, there is nothing new under the sun."
The show runs from January 7 to February 7. The gallery is located in building 11 on the main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue, Eugene. There is no charge for admission. The Art and Applied Design Department phone number is (541) 463-5409.
