EUGENE, Or - Lane Community College will celebrate the completion of the student-painted mural titled, "A Cultural Landscape" on Thursday, September 27, from 4-6 p.m. in front of the mural on the east side of the Building 5 gymnasium facing the lawn, on main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue, Eugene.
The celebration begins with music by Jupiter Hollow, a local world/rock/funk band, followed by speakers and a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5 p.m.
Art instructor Tom Madison came up with the concept of a mural that would embrace and celebrate diversity by conveying the merging of different cultures through symbols, vivid colors, and abstract shapes. Students in his mural class, along with a host of volunteers, helped throughout the year to get his idea from a concept in a computer to a full-scale mural on the P.E. building wall. Sponsors for the project included Tommy's Paint Pot of Eugene, who, in conjunction with Benjamin Moore paints, donated all of the paint used in the mural. Other sponsors included the Lane Community College President's Fund and students from the mural class.
Students, community members, and the volunteers who helped bring the mural to realization are invited to attend the ceremony and celebrate this community art piece.
