EUGENE, Ore. - Lane Community College will celebrate the transformation of a former classroom at its Cottage Grove campus into a no-cost children's dental clinic at an open house on Monday, Sept. 10, from 3-5 p.m. at 1275 S. River Road (directions at http://www.lanecc.edu/locations/lcc-cottage-grove)
Lane was part of a local coalition formed to address the lack of adequate dental care for local low-income youth.
"Local children have had to go to Eugene for dental care, and in many cases, go without care" said Jenette Kane, director of Lane's Cottage Grove campus. "We are very pleased to host a children's clinic at Lane, and in the future, we plan to partner with Lane's Health Professions credit program to provide learning opportunities for the dental students and potential support for the clinic."
Funding was provided by a $59,000 grant from the Oregon Community Foundation, plus $15,000 in cash and $180,000 in in-kind contributions from a variety of donors including Lane, South Lane School District, Cottage Grove Community Hospital Foundation, Cottage Grove Community Foundation, City of Cottage Grove, Cottage Grove Elks, Cottage Grove Rotary, Head Start, Family Relief Nursery, Dr. Mike Goger, Boys and Girls Club of Albany, Ford Family Foundation, Bi-Mart, Woodard Family Foundation, and others.
Six dentists and their staffs will volunteer services and expect to serve up to 1,000 youth.
