Women in the trades meet with students

EUGENE, OR - Fourteen students interested in hearing from professional women working in the local construction industry attended the "Women in Trades Reception" at Lane Community College on June 12. Five panelists from the National Association of Women in Construction included Ellie Cooper from Edge Construction Supply, Lisa Bean from Eugene Water and Electric Board, Janet Spriggs from BH Engineering, Carrie Fortier from Jones & Roth PC and Jeanne Staton from Staton Companies.Jeanne Staton (left), president of Staton Companies demolition, sitework and environmental contracting, talks with students in the Women in the Trades reception at Lane Community College on June 12

The reception provided the students with information on how to institute best practices and thrive in the construction industry. Skill development, networking, and mentoring also were discussed. Panel discussion was followed by breakout groups with individual construction professionals.

This event was sponsored by STEM TRIO, the Women's Center, Co-op Education, High School Connections, National Association of Women in Construction, and the Advanced Technology Division.
