Eugene, OR - James Lindly, director of the Lane Community College Small Business Development Center has been nominated as the OSBDCN's 2012 State Shining Star. "Jim serves as an entrepreneurial fountain of ideas for all aspects of business management, finance, research and marketing and so graciously shares his knowledge and expertise with others." stated Michael Lainoff, OSBDCN director, quoting from the nomination letter.
According to Andrea R. Testi, Treasure Valley Community College BizCenter director, who wrote the nomination letter, Jim far exceeds the expectations of the OSBDCN's criteria for 2012 OSBDCN State Star. In the letter she sates, "Jim is an exemplary performer, a significant contributor to the OSBDCN programs, and demonstrates a strong commitment to small businesses. . . He inspires others to join him in exceeding service expectations and needs. His attitude is that everyone, pulling together, can make the LCC BizCenter [Small Business Development Center or SBDC] an exceptional place to work and the best place for small businesses to get an entrepreneurial education and mentorship. He maintains excellent relations by assessing and responding to constituents' needs. Jim takes ownership of each challenge presented to the LCC BizCenter and follows through to its resolution."
Jim has been with the OSBDCN and Lane Community College since April 1997. He started as a part time hourly instructor; developed and taught Smooth Selling the Seven C's, and instructed various other classes such as Going Into Business. He then moved into part time faculty/director of the SBDC and Customized Training and Professional Development and eventually moved into the full time director position in 2002. His past experiences provide him with an extensive knowledge base from which to draw on to make his SBDC director position and his value to the OSBDCN that much more expansive and valuable.
Glenda Poling, manager Lane County Community & Economic Development Division, writes "It is with great pleasure I support the nomination of Jim Lindly for the State Star award. As an economic development practitioner for all of Lane County, when I think of superior support from partner organizations, Jim Lindly at LCC's Small Business Development Center tops the list. Jim is always ready to assist our endeavors, whether it is by helping a local entrepreneur launch their first business, assisting a second-phase business through its growing pains, or even helping recruit or retain large corporations. Jim's collaboration has helped us attract, grow and retain businesses at every level. One of Jim's greatest strengths is that of a problem solver, so when a 'puzzler' presents itself, I can count on him to be the first at the table to help identify our clients' needs, help them develop new skills through classes and workshops - and his repertoire of business referral sources is endless. His helpfulness as an economic development partner includes his customized approaches to meet the specific and individual needs of our clients. The County as a whole has benefitted from Jim's efforts and I'm pleased to support this nomination."
According to Ben Sappington, director, Regional Prosperity Initiative Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce, "...Jim's management style and presence in the community is refreshing. There isn't an event or program Jim won't sponsor with his limited resources or his time. Everyone always looks forward to a meeting with Jim; you know something is going to get done and that you will have a lot of fun doing it. Jim might have invented the word collaboration. Jim is one of the few business professionals who understands the meaning of the word and doesn't confuse it with delegation. I am proud to call Jim a colleague and friend. There isn't anything Jim wouldn't do for you professionally or personally. Jim is an outstanding community leader and manager whom I aspire to be more like every day."
Jason Barnhart, Springfield Chamber of Commerce says, "Jim Lindly is an outstanding candidate for any recognition of leadership. As an active connector in education, economy, and local business, we have relied on Jim's expertise, leadership, and can-do attitude for several cooperative projects involving local business and business education and resources. Jim has spearheaded a new project, Lane Business Link, that brings together multiple public and private agencies for the benefit of business and entrepreneurs in our community, one of which being the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce. We value the connection we have in Jim, and firmly qualify his skills in communication, problem solving, and leadership."
