EUGENE, OR – Lane Community College students Riley Kelley of Lowell and Pete Butler of Eugene recently received a "mikeroweWorks" Foundation Tools Scholarship made possible through the Associated Equipment Distributors Foundation.
Both students received a $1,000 tool scholarship, a congratulations letter from the AED Foundation, a scholarship certificate, and a personalized signed photo from Mike Rowe of the television series "Dirty Jobs."
Kelley recently completed a two-year associate of applied science degree and two-year certificate in diesel technology and is now employed as a GSW (general service worker) technician with the Lane Transit District.
Butler also finished a two-year AAS degree and two-year certificate in diesel technology. In addition, this term he will complete a second AAS degree in lift truck material handling, and a third AAS degree in computer networking.
Both students say they enjoy the troubleshooting aspect of their profession and are grateful for the training opportunities provided by their instructors and Lane.
Instructor Steve Webb said that the scholarships were made possible by the college's affiliation with the AED. "They have been very supportive of our efforts at Lane and recognize the importance of our training program to the industry as well as the community." Instructor Al Clark said the Diesel Technology Program was very proud of these students' accomplishments.
