EUGENE, OR - Oregon Research Institute of Eugene has been named 2012 Outstanding Cooperative Education Employer of the Year by Lane Community College.
ORI was selected from among 800 organizations who provide co-op experiences for more than 2,000 students. Each year, the co-op division honors one business or organization that has provided exceptional internship opportunities for Lane students.
"Oregon Research Institute is a good example of how an organization invests time in internships and shows the benefits for both the business and the students," said Al King, division dean of Cooperative Education at Lane. "They have demonstrated a very strong commitment to the internship process and have provided excellent learning experiences for our students."
ORI was presented with the award at a dinner event on Thursday, April 26. Accepting for ORI were Byron Glidden, Administrative Director; Mike Joyce, IT Manager; and Systems Administrators and Intern Supervisors Josh Burt and Andrew Guess.
Oregon Research Institute is an independent research center created in 1960 and dedicated to the study of human behavior. Through rigorous scientific investigations, ORI research scientists study such topics as behavioral problems in children, chronic physical illness in adults, teen substance abuse, and adolescent depression. ORI's research fosters greater understanding of the causes, prevention, and treatment of social and medical problems, ultimately enhancing quality of life and productivity for people of all ages. ORI's work directly affects everyone by providing effective tools to advance science and enhance lives. ORI is headquartered Eugene, Oregon and has satellite research offices in Portland, Oregon and in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is consistently among the top 50 nonprofit institutions in the country receiving federal funds and in 2011 was the fourth largest recipient of National Institutes of Health research dollars in Oregon. The largest independent behavioral research center in Oregon, in 2011 ORI had 81 active research grants and a budget of $20 million. ORI currently employs over 250 people.
