Sustainability showcase planned for LCC Earth Week

EUGENE, OR – As a local and national leader in sustainability, Lane Community College will celebrate Earth Week on campus with a series of educational and fun events, April 19-23.

  • Earth Week Kick Off and Solar Station Ribbon Cutting, Thursday, April 19, 10-10:45 a.m. Address by President Mary Spilde, electric vehicle charging demonstration, and a chance to meet the team behind the project including funders, designers, contractors and others.
  • Building 30 Tour—Thursday, April 19, 11 a.m.-12 p.m. The Health and Wellness Center is Lane's greenest building, using less energy, less water, and built with eco-friendly materials.
  • Learning Garden - Thursday, April 19, 12-4 p.m., with soup at 12 p.m. made from garden produce, and garden tours at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
  • Wellness Ecology Walk—Thursday, April 19, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Tour the Native Landscape Project by the Science Building and walk the Forested Hillside trail behind campus.
  • Sustainable Landscapes Talk - Thursday, April 19, 3-3:45 p.m., West Entrance Garden. Information on how Lane's grounds succeed in being chemical free, native, water conserving, and welcoming to wildlife.
  • Informational exhibits in the cafeteria, Center Building, Monday, April 23, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Peace Symposium—Friday through Sunday, April 20-22, titled "People Powered Democracy Confronts Corporate Rule," beginning at the Longhouse. Events include a keynote address by David Barsamian, founder and director of Alternative Radio. Live streaming will be available. More information online at: http://www.lanecc.edu/peacecenter
