Physical Therapist Assistant faculty earn state and national recognition

Christina HowardChristina Howard, Physical Therapist Assistant Program Coordinator for Lane since 2008, was elected to a one-year director position with the Oregon Physical Therapy Association. The OPTA advocates for physical therapy quality and awareness, and represents more than 1,300 PTs, PTAs, and students within the American Physical Therapy Association. Christina has presented at state and national conferences. Her professional specialties include chronic pain management, practice development, distance learning, and outcomes assessment. She has worked on Oregon's Degree Qualifications profile project and has chaired Lane's Assessment Team since 2012.

Beth ThorpeBeth Thorpe, PTA Clinical Coordinator, recently received a Recognition of Advanced Proficiency for the Physical Therapist Assistant in Education Physical Therapy from the American Physical Therapy Association. A peer review committee evaluated her curriculum vitae for indicators of PTA professional development and achievement in physical therapy education. She previously was recognized in 2007 in musculoskeletal physical therapy. Beth will be honored at the APTA's annual conference in June 2015. Beth has an AS in Physical Therapy and a BS in Sports Medicine from the University of Evansville, Indiana. She is a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Credentialed Clinical Instructor, and USA Track and Field Certified National Level Official. She served on Lane's PTA Advisory Committee when she started teaching in 2009. She participates in the local, state, and national professional associations.

Brian WilkinsonBrian Wilkinson, DPT, and part-time PTA faculty, recently passed the Certified Hand Therapy exam through the American Society of Hand Therapists. He is one of only 6,000 health professionals who possess this board certification worldwide. He earned the credential in part by providing more than 4,000 hours of direct patient care. Brian became a physical therapist in 2006 and began teaching at Lane in 2009. Outside of teaching, he works as an upper extremity specialist in Portland.
