New Public Weather Station Operational at LCC Florence
Lane Community College in Florence is the latest LCC location to receive an on-site weather station, joining the Eugene and Cottage Grove campuses.
The new weather stations are part of the Citizen Weather Observer Program (www.wxqa.com) and have been installed to allow participation in a national weather network that feeds data directly into national servers, working in conjunction with the University of Utah and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), parent agency of the National Weather Service (NWS).
“Forecast information is available free of charge to the public through the National Weather Service,” says Dr. Paul Ruscher, Dean of LCC's Science Division.
The Portland office of NWS serves our county and receives data from each of these stations in real time.
