Purpose:

Lane Community College is committed to decreasing its impact on the environment and continually striving to become more sustainable. This policy describes the College's commitment to recycling materials.

Narrative:

Lane Community College staff and students shall recycle all recyclable paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, aluminum and steel cans, and plastic bottles and tubs (#s 1-5 and 7).  If a department feels that this policy creates a clear economic hardship, a department staff or student representative shall contact Facilities Management and Planning to discuss accommodations that can be made.

Why?

Lane Community College is committed to decreasing its impact on the environment and continually striving to become more sustainable.  For more information about the college's goals related to sustainability, see Lane Community College Sustainability Goals.

Lane Community College is committed to using student and public funds efficiently.  Recycling costs less money than throwing things away. See 2000/2001 Cost Comparison - Recycling vs. Garbage.

How?

For questions on what paper is recyclable and how to recycle paper at Lane, see the Paper Recycling Guidelines.

For questions on how to recycle cans and bottles and what cans and bottles to recycle, see the Can & Bottle Recycling Guidelines.

To find the recycling bins nearest to you, see Recycling Container Locations.

In order for recycling to remain economically feasible, we must continue to purchase items made with recycled content.  Please also see the policy on Purchases: Recycled Paper.
