Purpose:

This procedure describes the policy and legal criteria for the medical treatment of minors.

Narrative:

The Health Clinic will treat minors 15 years of age and older if currently enrolled at Lane Community College in an eligible program.

According to Oregon Revised Statutes 109 "Rights and Relationships of Parent and Child", minors 15 years of age and older may consent for their own medical, surgical, and dental care.  They do not need parental consent. (ORS 109.640)

Minors under 15 years of age may consent for their own medical care for reportable sexually transmitted infections and birth control methods only.  (ORS 109.610)

Minors 14 years of age and older may consent to outpatient treatment for mental or emotional illnesses and chemical dependency.  (ORS 109.675)

Minors requesting medical care at the Health Clinic will follow the same consent procedures as adults, except that minors under 15 years of age will need parental consent for treatment other than reportable sexually transmitted infections and birth control methods.
