Colleagues:
In late fall 2007, President Mary Spilde put together a Management Structure Workgroup (MSW) to review options for restructuring the administrative/management structure at Lane, and to make appropriate recommendations.
In the deliberations and in the final report, the MSW underscored the importance of aligning Lane's management structure with the ongoing work across the college. In its final report to the president, the MSW presented several options, but the Workgroup did not reach consensus that any single option should be adopted in its entirety. The final report that the Workgroup presented to Mary Spilde on March 6th is on the MSW website:
Mary Spilde reviewed the report and presented her recommendation which was approved by the Board of Education at the meeting on March 12th.
However, due to the difficult budget situation that we are still working with, it is not possible to fully implement all the president's recommendations immediately. As a result, we will continue with the current costs-saving strategy of holding vacant management positions open, and making incremental changes at best, until the financial situation becomes clearer.
The MSW appreciates your suggestions and comments, which significantly improved the quality of the final report. The questions, comments, and suggestions demonstrated once again that Lane is a Learning College with a community of committed learners.
