Maureen Dalton, NASA engineer

Maureen Dalton, NASA engineer and LCC graduateFrom Lane Student to Graduate School that landed me an internship with USACE then to NASA. Now a full-time NASA Engineer at Kennedy Space Center, Florida.

I started at Lane back in 2010, an immigrant and wanted to learn on mapping out a new career in the United States. I choose to complete the GIS Certificate and had really a good time learning about the sophisticated ARCGIS software and its functionality. Having an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering abroad, studying about geographic and spatial data made realize its relativity to water systems and the environment. When my school credentials abroad were certified, this was about a semester before the completion of my GIS Cert., I applied to Graduate School and choosing a major in Environmental and Water Resources and has used my knowledge from Lane in completing my thesis.

I accepted an internship opportunity at NASA, who wouldn't, right? After completing my graduate degree in December 2013, I was offered a full-time position in the Civil Engineering division of which I accepted.

I would like to share my story, especially to immigrants like me whom had encounter a lot of challenges, from the culture, the environment and with life itself. I never gave up, I strive to give my best in everything I do.

Thank you to all my professors at Lane, especially to Dr. Lynn Songer!
