Lane Community College, I don't know if I would be the same person I am today had I not attended school here. I came to this campus in 2012 to initially take as many classes as I could so I could transfer as soon as I could, but I didn't realize that I was unhappy with what I was doing. It was when I found my love for Political Science in Steve Candee's class and how I got involved with ASLCC that changed my perspective on how I viewed college. It became a time for me to explore and find out who I am and how could I grow to be a better person so I could be a better student.
I knew that I wanted to continue the work of what my family started by being involved in business, but I also wanted to pursue my own unique ambitions while I was here. Being a young woman of color in a position of power, I want to empower other students to become leaders so that we can inspire future generations of students who come after us. Although my major is in International Studies and my minor is in Business, coming to Lane has helped me realize that it's not about just being book smart, it's about how we take what we learn in the classrooms and applying it to real world applications that make us who we are.
When I look back at this time last year in 2013, I would never have thought that I would be the person I am today had it not been for my instructors encouraging me, for ASLCC challenging me, and for the students who came before me who guided me on this path. I will never forget the experiences and people I've met here and I hope to build more memories of what it means to be a true Titan.
